PRESSING INSTRUCTIONS

Pressing Instructions:

Our screen prints are available in two options: single-color transfers on a paper carrier sheet and full-color transfers on a clear film (Direct to Film). The pressing instructions provided serve as a general guide. However, it’s important to note that each heat press machine is unique, and you might discover that your press performs best with different settings than the ones we have suggested. Take the time to familiarize yourself with your press and determine its optimal settings for the best results.

All Transfers:

Pressure: HEAVY PRESSURE (8-9 manual, 60 PSI automatic)

  • Pre-press the garment first for 7 seconds.
  • Press all transfers for 7-10 seconds.

Press Temperature:

  • Single Color: 325°F Hot peel HEAVY PRESSURE
  • Clear Film: 285-300°F Hot peel HEAVY PRESSURE

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS: The resolution for any pressing issues with prints is usually pressure, time, and/or temperature. Pressing instructions serve as a guide, but it’s important to note that every heat press is different. It is crucial to familiarize yourself with your specific press and determine its optimal settings for the best results.

When peeling off the carrier sheet, if it doesn’t release easily, gently lay the transfer sheet back down and press again. Avoid forcefully pulling the paper off if it resists or doesn’t peel smoothly, as this can damage the ink. Instead, stop peeling when you encounter resistance, lay it back down, adjust the heat and/or pressure, and repress.

Heat presses can operate hotter or colder than the set temperature and may lose heat between pressing shirts due to constant opening and closing. To ensure your press is running at the correct temperature, it is recommended to use a heat gun for accurate readings.

Here’s a pro tip from KarriKels: If a print doesn’t fully release cleanly from the film, use something like excess shirt fabric to protect your hand from the hot print. Firmly rub over the print, pressing it into the shirt fabric quickly so it doesn’t cool completely, and then try peeling again. For a more secure seal, you can cover the print with parchment and give it a second press.

Keep in mind that heat presses can lose performance over time, resulting in inconsistent heat and uneven pressure. If you’re experiencing trouble with prints, consider these factors. Additionally, heavy pressure is necessary when pressing screen print transfers. Set your heat press pressure tightly enough that it requires effort to open/close the press with both hands. Most print pressing issues stem from insufficient pressure.

Seams on the garment can affect pressure, so try to position them off the press for better results. Remember, a heat press with even pressure and temperature is essential for using these transfers. Using a heat gun to obtain an accurate temperature reading of your press is highly recommended.

No Teflon sheets. If repress is necessary, cover the design with parchment paper.

It is NOT recommended to use an Easy Press. These presses do not have heavy pressure options, which is needed for screen prints.

Screen print transfers can be used on any color garment. 100% cotton and poly/cotton blends recommended.

Care Instructions for washing t-shirts with screen print transfers applied to the shirt:

  • Turn the garment inside out.
  • Machine wash cold. Mild detergent. No bleach. No fabric softener.
  • Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Do not iron directly on the design.
